Ellie Epke, Elite squash's 11 year old star won the 2009 British junior under 13 championships last weekend. The last 5 years of hard work paid off in style as Ellie won every match 3-0 to take the title. Ellie's opponent, Georgina Kennedy put up a very impressive fight in the 3rd game, retrieving from all over the court and finishing rallies with powerful drives but Ellie managed to squeeze the game 14-12.
2 years earlier Peter Joyce, also an Elite squash member won the boys under 13's . Unfortunately Pete had an appendix operation 2 weeks ago so was unable to try for the title this year.
Another tremendous achievement came from Ruoshan Yau who finished in 10th position, bettering his national ranking by 12 places. Ruoshan showed how excellent preparation and concentrated disciplined squash brings results. His match play was almost perfect and with a little more strength and severity to his game he will continue to climb the rankings.
Tory Temple-Murray reached 7th position in the girls under 17 matching her National ranking. On another day Tory could have finished higher but a highly motivated Brogan Lane stopped Tory's chances in the main draw.
Adrian Barnes and Will Tizard played their first British championships and both played well and learned a lot. Adrian battled through his first round of qualifying 3.2 and then lost to a strong player in the final qualifying round of the under 15's. Will met the eventual finalist, Robert Downer in the first round of the under 19's but pushed him to a 3.1 match. More good experience for Will.
